About the Australian Qualification System & VET
The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)
This is a quality assured national framework of qualifications in the school, vocational education and training (VET) and
higher education sectors in Australia. This Framework links together all these qualifications and is a highly visible,
quality-assured national system of educational recognition which promotes lifelong learning and a seamless and diverse
education and training system.
The Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF)
This (AQTF 2007) is a national set of standards which ensures nationally consistent, high-quality training and
assessment services for the clients of Australia’s vocational education and training system.
The AQTF consists of 2 sets of nationally agreed standards:
The AQTF 2007 Essential Standards for Registration
The AQTF 2007 Standards for State and Territory Registering Bodies
The adherence by training providers and registering authorities to these 2 standards ensures nationally consistent, high
quality training and assessment services for clients of the VET system.
Registered Training Organisations (RTOs)
RTOs are providers and assessors of nationally recognised training. Only RTOs can issue nationally recognised
qualifications. To become registered, training providers must meet the Australian Quality Training Framework 2007
(AQTF 2007) standards. This ensures the quality of Vocational Education and Training (VET) services throughout
Australia. Training organisations register to provide nationally recognised training with its relevant state or territory
registration authority.
State and Territory registering Authorities (STAs)
Each Australian STA is accountable to their minister, who is a member of the Ministerial Council for Vocational and
Technical Education (MCVTE). It is the responsibility of each STA to: support training organisations, employers and
the community on VET issues and to accredit courses and register training providers within the Australian Quality
Training Framework 2007 (AQTF2007)
Hayton College is a NSW based college, registered by VETAB to provide accredited training in Units of Competency from the SIT07 Tourism, Hospitality and Events Training Package including:
* SITTINDo01A
* SITTTSL010A

Vocational Education and Training (also known as VET) is education and training that focuses on providing skills for the workplace.
VET provides the skills which will help people to either:
* Join the workforce for the first time
* Re-join the workforce after a break
* Upgrade skills in their chosen field
* Move into a different career
Vocational skills based courses are offered in colleges, community centres, training institutes and other RTOs. (check www.ntis.gov.au).
VET courses focus on providing “real world” occupational skills as opposed to University courses which usually focus on theory and professional career paths.
VET qualifications include Certificates I, II, III and IV, Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas and selected Degrees.
Hayton’s VET courses cover basic vocational skills for particular occupations (e.g. travel and tourism, hospitality) and the certificates issued are called Statements of Attainment. These Statements of Attainment are issued after students demonstrate competence in assessments for a particular “Unit of Competency”
Vocational education and training (VET) is ‘education and training for work’ and part of a broader educational network in Australia that includes schools, universities and adult and community education.
The Australian VET system is one of the most sophisticated in the world because it is, industry-led and the employers, unions and professional associations of an industry define the outcomes that are required from training. The system is also National and jointly-managed by state,territory and Australian governments, in partnership with industry and training providers. The VET system is also client focused, clients of the VET system are employers and individuals who use it or intend to use it. This simple, flexible and relevant system responds to client needs.
